Sgt. Barry Denton Bio

 

Sergeant Barry Denton is the current Commander of the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Recruitment and Selection Unit. He started his career in law enforcement in 1991 with the Jefferson County Police Department where he was a patrolman, domestic violence detective, and district resource/crime prevention officer. In 2003, the Jefferson County Police and the Louisville Division of Police merged into what is now the Louisville Metro Police Department. In that same year, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Since that time, he has served as the Administrative Assistant to the Major of the 4th District, as the Assistant Commander over the Community Relations Division, and is currently the Commander over the Recruitment and Selection Unit. Sergeant Denton is also the Assistant Commander of the Bomb Squad, and a former team member of the Louisville Joint Emergency Services Unit.

 

He received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisville and Master’s degree in Homeland Security from the American Military Institute. He is pursuing a second Master’s degree in Police Administration from the University of Louisville, graduating in December, 2010. Sergeant Denton is a three time medal of Valor recipient and was given the Jefferson County Judge Executive’s Millennium Award in 2000. He is a graduate from the Southern Police Institutes Administrative Officers Course and the Department of Criminal Justice Training School of Strategic Leadership. He is also a member of Kentucky’s Workforce Investment Board.

 

Sergeant Denton is a also a part time instructor for the Southern Police Institute where he teaches a three day Recruitment in Law Enforcement Kentucky Law Enforcement Council approved course. He also teaches college level courses online as an adjunct professor for Indiana Wesleyan University and the Indiana Business College. He also creates college level curriculums for Strayer University.
